 noon Visit to Ely Cathedral\nThe Committee has arranged a visit to this hi
 storic Cathedral - one of the most spectacular buildings in East Anglia. W
 ith its dramatic outline above the surrounding fenland\, on a site dating 
 from 673\, it remains one of the highlights of the medieval world. Rich in
  history and architectural detail\, spread across the centuries\, I was aw
 estruck on a recent reconnaissance visit. To quote Simon Jenkins\, from hi
 s England's Cathedrals\, 'After each visit\, I am left in a state of wonde
 r that England could have created such a place eight centuries ago.'\n\nTh
 e visit of 2 1/2 hours will start with a guided tour of the Cathedral's gr
 ound floor\, covering the main areas\, before a short stroll to the Almonr
 y Kitchen\, where tea/coffee and cakes will be provided. There will be tim
 e\, returning to our coach\, to linger in the Cathedral and to visit the C
 athedral Shop.\n\nCoach will leave the Village Hall Car Park at 12.30pm (s
 harp)\, returning from Ely to arrive back in Lavenham around 6pm.\n\nCost 
 (unchanged from 2024) £35 per person\, for visit\, tea &amp\; transport.
