The Lavenham Open the Book team was established in May 2011 and was initiated by the then curate, Rev Annette Shannon, and our much loved Reader - the late Dr. Jean Guy.
Open the Book is a nationwide activity under the guidance of The Bible Society. Teams across the UK take bible stories into primary schools and present them through a storyteller and role play, often involving children from the school and including audience participation!
The Lavenham team of about twelve has been enthusiastically received by Lavenham Community Primary School, with around six visits a year to the school as well as support for the School Harvest Festival and Christingle services in the Church.
Preparation and rehearsal involves a lot of fun, making props and ensuring that the assembly, which typically lasts for 10-15 minutes, achieves the objectives of conveying an important story (taken from The Lion Storyteller Bible) for children in an entertaining way.
Photographs of our recent assemblies are displayed on the noticeboard at the rear of the Church.
If you would like any further information, our Rector, Rev Stephen Earl, will be happy to put you in touch with the team.
